There are the doers and then there are the clingers on.
Every organization, grouping, cause, even community is made up of different kinds of participants. There would be the leaders, creators and the hands-on workers. There would be the people who join in when they are required. There would be those who come in only in in dire situations. This is the nature of all human groupings.
However there are some who are there for no reason. They seek positions but not the responsibilities. They have always been there, waiting in the sideline, waiting for the opportunity to present themselves in the middle without a crease on their shirt. Not a drop of sweat to wet his temples, not a muscle stretched. And yet they are the recipients of all the applause and accolades.
People like this are the bane of every society, or grouping. They do not believe in whatever cause the group believes in but pretends to be the very heart of it. They invest not a penny in it but are the first to grab the returns. The do not even bother to be a part of the dinner planner but make the beeline to the dinner table first.
People like this are ones who think that the world owes it to them, and they themselves are devoid of any duties. They love to hear their names being mentioned at every august gathering and be attributed all the virtues, they don’t possess. However it is believed that these people are not so only due to laziness and selfishness. There is a fair crowd that do so due to fear.
Freud once said “Most people do not really want freedom, because freedom involves responsibility, and most people are frightened of responsibility.” This can be said of great many. So why do these people join groups. They do so to be in the midst, not caring for what it entails. Such people have no qualms with standing ahead of the real doers and like the mentions they get.
This is an opinion that springs to the mind. If you can’t take up responsibilities, do not join groups. If there are such clingers on, the group would be best served by booting them off.
Why cling on, if you can’t?
