Who do I thank and what for?’

“Gratitude is a thankful appreciation for what an individual receives, whether tangible or intangible. With gratitude, people acknowledge the goodness in their lives. … Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships.” This is how Google describe gratitude.
The word gratitude is derived from the Latin word gratia, which means grace, graciousness, or gratefulness. In some ways, gratitude encompasses all of these meanings. With gratitude, people acknowledge the goodness in their lives. In the process, people usually recognize that the source of that goodness lies at least partially outside themselves. As a result, being grateful also helps people connect to something larger than themselves as individuals — whether to other people, nature, or a higher power.
The first of all gratitude is owed to the Divine Soul. It is the source of all that we have and will have. No human was born without divine consent. Then there are your life partner, parents, children, siblings and the society you live in. Gratitude can be expressed in words but the best is the ones in action.
Outside of this group, there are a great many who you owe gratitude to. In fact any favor or help is a reason for gratitude. However gratitude is not a cause for demands. True gratitude is seen not heard. In positive psychology research, gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships.
Finally thanks is a word that recognizes you from the usurper to the cultured human being.
