Where God Dwells

“Surely you know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you!” – (1 Corinthians 3:16)

God, and His Holy Abode has been a subject of great theological debate through the course of human history. Every believer has his or her own concept of God’s abode despite there being scripture and holy books, telling with authority where it exists. Every religion believes in a different concept of God’s dwelling and often contradict one another. The commonest belief is that God dwells in heaven.

For those who believe, God is the greatest truth. It is what keeps them going and gives them strength to live lives in peace and happiness. There is nothing truer and more believable than Him. Even hardcore atheists have at some point or the other pinned their hopes on Divinity. The eternal question of where God is has been hotly debated and no one with any authority can rightly say where it is.

However this is one question that is not a matter for theologians or religious leaders to decide. It is for those who believe to place God where he or she chooses to. Because wherever you place God, that then is the heaven you sought. And every time you think of God, he takes place in your heart. And if your heart is God’s Temple, you belong rightly, not to yourself but to Him. Hence the need your body and mind pure, clean, devoid of negative thoughts or feelings and filled with the deepest belief in Him.

Why then do we rush off to the churches and temples and worship crucifixes and stone idols. The God dwelling within you surely does not manifest as crucifixes or idols. It seems contradictory to true belief to even go somewhere else to seek God. Have we all been taken for a ride by the religious leaders and priests through the centuries? Has mankind lost true sight of God?

The answer lies in the concept of congregation. Human society has always thrived on the group instinct and we are a species that does things best, together. This is true even for the realization of God. The places of worship are places where we are made aware of the presence of God within you. When you pray together in a church, every one of you is praying to the God within you in unison and not to any image that is on displayed there. The effects of praying together manifest in imbibing in those who believe a way to search that has been tried and tested.

However temple and church beliefs have now come to mean a series of repetitive actions that have taken the place of belief and the spirit of true search. It has now become a mechanized version of prayers and repetitiveness.

The true search for God has now been sidelined to those instances when we are in danger or in hoping for some great gains. And when something goes wrong we tend to portray God as the wrongdoer. Has the person who blames, ever considered the fact that he has never even considered God when he set forth on what brought about the failure? If he had done so, he may have reconsidered his deeds.

What God bestows is His will for all of us. It may not be evident now, but those are the tests he puts you through before he finally gives it to you. Love God, He will teach you to love all and once you do that He will take dwelling within you – at all times. Spreading this message is the true purpose of life
