Time to Make Yourself Useful At Home – Finally!

All your earthshaking venture are now shelved for the time being – COVID19 has ensured that. “You could shake with all your might but nothing’s gonna come”, as Sammy Hagar would croon.

Your busybody is now confined at home and it will so for the near future to come. Gone is the dark suit and flashy car. Your pretty secretary is no longer at the office awaiting your arrival. Those waiting for those few minutes of your audience have disappeared and the lobby is empty as is the mighty swivel chair that held all the powers of the world. The four walls of your home, will hold you now and the only faces you will see, will be that of your family.

Time to take stock of the new work front…. Do you know what the provisions hold today? Okay, be frank, do you at least know where it is all kept? Well this maybe the best time to go on the adventure of finding where the wife has hidden the coffee and the sugar. Or maybe you ought to take a look around the house and you may notice the dark splotches on the walls and the lichens on the fences, which you can wash off or scrape away. The car obviously need a wash ages ago. The refrigerator has the remnants of last weekend party that you forbade the wife to clear out. It takes just a minute of less to move these treasures to the garbage bags.. The lawn needed mowing and the drapery a launder. By the way did you know that carpets need dusting every week? What about the cleaning of the ceiling fans. Well to be fair you have dusted the rocking chair on the balcony….

The little ones, who haven’t seen school in a year and there are a few things you could teach them. No just school stuff, but a lot of things your dad took time to teach you as a kid, which you never had the time to hand over to your kids. What the hell, fly kites with them and be their best pal. You may even learn a bit just listening to them.

Your help could make the harrowing days ahead a pleasure for the wife and family. By the way it could be a blessing in disguise for those working on foreign time. They can now get some sleep, and not do the work and the domestic chores. Guess who?!

It may even be the early days in the birth of a Pulitzer Prize winner. Ever thought you could write, no not those memos. Have you written those thoughts you have in mind, or a story? You may surprise yourself. Those great dreams you saw last night, could well be the makings of a great new book.
