Sow without expectations

There are sayings umpteen that says that you shall reap what you sow. Humanity believes this with ample reason. So there is no doubt that this is what brought mankind from the hunter gatherer to the modern, high flyer, he is. So what is this write up about?
I happened to read a little snippet written by Gururatna Jnana Thapaswi. Four line that made me think deeply for four days. A statement of truth that was a trip into the deepest of realities we see but never realise. The translation of this snippet in Malayalam reads, “It is the seeds that fell off the free roaming birds, that created the vast forests, we see around the world. What can be the greatest motivation for anything other than selfless acts with no expectations?”
The bird does not sow the seeds to reap a harvest. It does not calculate the return nor claim ownership. In fact it does so not even to remember it did something important. That is why all forest had grown to cover the entire world. The bird never knew or bothered about the fact that its creation gives every living thing, the very air they breathe. Rewards or recognition do not bother the bird nor tie it down to a gain. In fact nature had taught it that ownership is the first form of self enslavement. Ownership clips your wings off and binds you.
This is not to say that an advanced being like a human should forfeit himself of the fruits of his or her labour. This is just to say that the lesser your claims to your earnings the more you will fly like a bird…..
