Aging is a process we just cannot wish away. It comes calling to every human life, with hardly, any personal differences. It brings with it a large set of conditions, most of which slowly, but surely impairs most of our abilities. This is the period of your life where we need the help of others. However one thing that we conveniently forget is the fact that, the greatest help we require is from ourselves. Self-care is the very centre of a healthy life.
There are a set of things that we need to keep our eyes open for. It needs to be remembered that most of our responses slow down as we age. Past seventy is when it becomes noticeable. However it almost never manifests as any symptoms. We never realise until it hits us while we try to do something or respond to a situation and discover much to our consternation that it is not that easy anymore.
Over the last couple of days, an entire family has been under a state of great duress. The cause – the health condition of our mother, after she suffered a fall. At an age when every minor problem can be a serious concern, it has caused enough worry among us, her children. The bones at this age tend to be brittle and suffer fractures, quite easily. Why I mention this is because, this was a fall that may well have been avoided.
There is need for a watchfulness by the people themselves. Being aware of one’s own fragilities is of great importance and it needs to be impressed in the minds of the aging. It is important that they are made aware of not engaging in anything that could endanger their health and wellbeing. It is impossible to physically prevent them from doing such activities on a continual basis and it is mandatory that they be made deeply aware of the dangers that may befall.
