Seek what is unique in you

We are all born different. Not even identical twins are completely the same. There are qualities, strengths, skills, talents, and innate qualities within each one of us. These are the actual wealth that nature has endowed in all of us. And even those with physical or mental impairment have a gold mine of these riches within themselves. And these talents are the true wealth your parents give for you.
Yet we choose to believe that what they have and give you in terms of money or property is what matters. Conversely, we feel betrayed when we see our peers from bigger households with richer parents. We feel grossly cheated when someone else comes to school in a larger car than yours. The fact that this kid does not have some very unique talent you have is conveniently forgotten.
A study shows that all humans are 99.9% identical. This means that only .01% of us is different. Percentage-wise this is a very small number. But it would serve us well to remember that 0.01% is nearly three million base pairs of genes that can be rearranged in so many different ways, that it may be 20000 years before an exact replica of you is born. This means that you are alone in many ways and quite unique.
What’s the fastest way to unhappiness? It is comparing ourselves to others. We all know that envy, is a perennial affliction and not just among young people. This is seen just as commonly among mature people too. In fact, comparisons are more than envy – it is grievous self-abuse. Envy and negative thoughts have been at the root of the destruction of many institutions.
Even basic institutions like marriage and family have envy running with them. The root cause for this is the fact that you have not sought out and developed your own talents. You have not unearthed what lies within you and instead have spent your time and effort looking at someone else. This is the chain that held you from diving deep within yourself and bringing out the rich catch.
Take some time every day to look within yourself. If you look well enough you are surely going to find something worth developing. Maybe a thought, or an idea or a skill that you thought is common but is not, in reality. In fact, you will have something to do the next day at least that is worth an effort. Envy can occur but do remember that when you envy someone, you are actually acknowledging him or her for the skill or talent and thus encouraging its development. So even from a competitive angle, it is self-defeating.
Complaining of your misfortune is the last thing you ought to do. Feeling that someone had a better deal is the biggest source of defeat you can have.
