Never Separated

There are some lives that stay entwined forever. They are not separated even by death. It is one such story that I chose to tell today. A story that I recount with a drop of deeply felt tear in my eyes. A story of two very deeply loved people, whose love for one another transcends time and even the mortality of humans – one of love.

I have known Joshy since college. I was an English Literature student, he was a chemistry student. We had come together as a gang, along with Dr Anil Peethambaran and Vayalar Sarath Chandra Varma and a few others. We were a very close knit group and up to all sorts of fun activities. This is a group that still stays well connected even after nearly forty years.

Joshy had married Mini (Sosa), a marriage that from the very first moment was evidently one that was made in heaven. He is a scientist and a virologist of repute and the couple built their lives in the United States of America. They were made for each other, and they were blessed with three lovely children, two girls and a boy. The solidarity of a family always rubs off on the children and they grow up to be successful people and great humans. The children, in this family, grew up to be sources of pride for the parents.

Even age couldn’t prevent the couple from honeymooning late into their lives. There was never a week without a video of the couple being posted in social media, showing the two, having fun with their lives and their love for each other. I guess even the angels in heaven must have felt envious of their happiness.

And then one day Mini was struck down by a stroke, a devastating one. All of us that came to know, prayed over the night and day for her. Every heart that knew the couple wished they would stay one and not be separated. Joshy sat with her day in and day out watching her sinking, and with a heart that was sinking within him. The hospital did its best to retrieve her, but two days later, they broke the heart breaking news to the other half of that life. Mini was going and there was no stopping her. Joshy’s super model love was on her way out, leaving him forever.

He requested the doctors to keep her alive for a couple of days to sit holding her hands, after which the doctors could pull the plugs and she would pass on – into the hands of the immortality. She survived for just a day, and left even before the life support was stopped.

There is the deeply kept faith that gives us strength even in the face of such devastating blows. It is the faith that we will ultimately meet in Jesus, He that gave us our very lives and chooses the moment to recall. Ultimately it is there that we meet them, that we loved deeply and live on in eternity.

I only pray that the Good Lord gives Joshy the strength to pull himself together and live on with her memories. Knowing him, he would. But surely the void she left, I am sure would be bemoaned by him in those moments he is alone.

This is my heartfelt tribute to the love of this much loved couple.
