Ignore the ping

Not all calls are pleasant interactions. Not everyone a welcome visitor, even on the phone. Even some one dear can be an irritation at times. And not to forget the incessant tring tring during the all-important afternoon siesta.

Even as newer models of phones evolve, mankind has also been busy inventing newer and innovative ways to avoid those troublesome, irritating and embarrassing calls. We started off with ignoring the ring. The problem with ignoring the ring is that it tends to disturb those around you. You tend to get angry looks from those around you. Thus we switched to keeping the phone in the vibrate mode. The tickle while it rang was okay, maybe even pleasurable. But even so it was still audible. The angry looks turned to queer glances, as if you were belching in public.

We tried our hands at keeping the phone completely silent, but at the risk of missing that all important call. Just when we were on the brink of losing all hope, the phone companies came up with the concept of blocking individuals we don’t want to talk with, like the guy I borrowed money from the other day. However that produces the vexing problem of having to find excuses when you go back to him, next time you want to borrow from him.

I have come up with a new idea. One that helps me catch fish without getting the hands wet. An online contest for the most innovative avoid call invention shall get a reward of a thousand quid, in dollars. The contest will run for a month and the ideas collected. And what about the reward. Well, just use the best idea to avoid calls from the dude who won……

By the way do not forget to go through the 10 tricks to make your phone unreachable, a classic piece of technical literature available freely online
