A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out…… WALTER WINCHELL
They say “Old wood best to burn, old wine to drink, old friends to trust, and old authors to read”. Friendships are not born overnight. We pick up friends easily but the bond stays on only to those who suit us. Friendship is one relationship, which we have the choice of making. This is a relationship with no pre-written prescriptions, no upper or lower limits. Two friends set their own upper and lower limits.
Friendship has become the solidifying mould that has kept people close for many years through some of the hardest and emotionally draining fights we as individuals and our society has faced. Modern friendship has now given scope for friendships across gender barriers too. A friend is not one who call you everyday or sits with you for an evening drink. A friend is one who see you for who you are and gives his best to help you there.
Friendship is something to be acclaimed and shared between individuals, cultures and even countries. Friendship between human beings is seen as a noble and valuable sentiment that adds to life, to cherish the moments with those dear to them and to enjoy every experience that is given to them. A true friend will support, encourage and accept us for who we are regardless of what our name is, how we look or how we sound. They bring a kind of fulfilment into our lives and they expect nothing from us. Best friends go through it all. Sometimes, we will wish that our friends are our family instead of our blood relatives. Sometimes you may feel judged, misunderstood or humiliated by your family, but friends can fill this void. A friend is probably the best listener to your cause
As in all other forms of human relations, friendships too have the flip side. Pretenders and betrayers frequent this realm too. Pretenders are easy to spot. Their approach exposes their intention somewhere along interaction. However the betrayers are more difficult to spot and can be extremely dangerous. These people stay with us every step of the way, until they drop you at the crucial juncture, often for some gain. These people give the beautiful relationship called friendship a slur.
Having friendships is extremely important for leading a healthy, happy life. Without having friends around us, we can feel lonely and helpless as in some situations having the surrounding arms of friends can really lift us up and bring us joy. Friendship knows no boundaries, it is universal and it can bring different cultures, religions and backgrounds together to form a special bond which could last forever.
A friend in need is a friend indeed is a saying that humanity has cherished. Friend can be the shoulder that carries you forward, pull you out of trouble maybe even save your life.
It is as the French would say “Salut l’amitié”. Let us hail friendship!!!
