Dealing with Disappointment

There is not a person who has not experienced instances of disappointment. It can be exceedingly trying, sometimes nearly impossible to get past. The cause replays in the mind and how badly it made one feet. We have all tried different methods to cope, including tipping back a drink too many – sometimes with disastrous results

Disappointments are born of belied expectations, unexpected loss or denied opportunity. It is perhaps one of the most damning of emotions. It hold you from being able to perform at your best. It makes you feel that your life is a burden and in some cases you question its very purpose. Extreme disappointment has been one of the prime causes for mental distress and suicidal thoughts.

There are a few life hacks that help one handle disappointment.

  • One of the best ways to deal with disappointment is to resize your expectations. It may be a great idea to put values to expectations and put expectations at fifty percent of it. This serves two purposes. Firstly, by resizing your expectation you are making your mind accept the possibility of failure. Secondly it cuts down the expectation by nearly half thus making it more manageable.
  • Identify the cause of the disappointment. Seeking the cause helps you get over the emotional impact. This serves to get a great deal of the deep emotions off your mind and the search for the cause will help you prevent the same in the future.
  • Divert your mind from the disappointment. Take some time to watch a happy movie or listen to music with a lot of rhythmic beats. This will relax your mind considerably and pick your mind off the morass.
  • Motivate yourself by promising yourself that you would never be held down by defeat our failure.

Disappointments cannot be avoided, but it depend on how you deal with it, whether it hurts you or not.
