Immunizations are not here for the first time, nor for the last. Ever since Edward Jenner discovered that the pathogens that cause illness can be put into the human system, in miniscule quantities or in less virulent forms, to induce immunity, humankind has developed vaccines for a great many diseases. The deadly smallpox today is virtually non-existent, as are scores of infective diseases. Today we are in the process of adding COVID19 pandemic, caused by the deadly Corina Virus to this list of beaten diseases.
Why then is the administration of COVID19 vaccine a cause for celebration, like never before? True, COVID19 cause the greatest consternation in the modern world, at a global level, beating even wars, in its impact. It is not uncommon to see facebook posts celebrating individuals who have been administered the dosages. Such messages get great notice in the social media too.
The question that arises in the mind is, is the administration of the vaccine a true cause for such celebration? One can understand global rejoicing with the development of the vaccine. However being administered the same is not of anyone making or fruits of their efforts. It is just an incidental, and those who got it are just fortunate. There are many, not in a position to be on the frontline of those inoculated, some of them more deserving than those who did. While we all admit that life is not always fair, it is difficult to perceive the celebration behind an unfair gain. Especially, propagating it in a fashion that it reaches those still under the shadow of fear.
A thought that occurs in the mind is – wouldn’t it be more apt to start celebrations when all of humanity is inoculated and COVID19 is put to rest for good. One can even understand celebration, when a nation, or state or a local area is completely inoculated.
Well, one joins in with the relief of those have received deliverance. But one also hope that those who aren’t be delivered soon, too
Before it is too late for them. We will join the celebrations then…….
