Beauty – within and without

We all have our own concept of what beauty is. The over made up model, with pouting red lips, wearing clothing with acute scarcity of fabric in it, flaunting her curves, is the one symbol of beauty, that the world has grown to accept as the epitome of beauty. But then it is said that beauty lie in the eyes of the beholder. Which means your beauty can be viewed differently by different people. In fact it is for me as the viewer to decide whether you are beautiful or not, what with the thousands you spent on those costly cosmetics.

There are a thousand definitions of beauty. And there are many degrees of each. And beauty truly being in the eye of the beholder, there could be joy or sadness in beauty, even ugliness. It is a concept that has haunted poets, artists and academics for centuries, without giving anyone any definite answer. In truth there are no real standards for beauty.

Beauty can actually fool you. One place you often seek beauty is while you search for that woman who visualize romantically. She often appears in your dreams as the girl in the poster, with accentuated everything. Humans, especially males are visual creatures. In their minds’ eye, most men have an inflated idea of beauty. But to see how he really finds beauty in his own surroundings, all he needs to do is to look at the girl with whom he spends time and feels most comfortable with. She is often the opposite of the bedroom poster. Could be a friends, cousin or co-worker. If she is the one he enjoys being with most, in the long run she is likely to be the one he will find most beautiful. To be able to laugh with someone, we must drop our guards. Beauty is to be free and to be able to act naturally.

Humans also have the need to appear beautiful. This is especially true with women, and is commonly called vanity. It is a well-known secret that every meeting of two women is also a competition, where one evaluates the other. Yet to be truly beautiful and be accepted as such all you need is to make the person you meet feel comfortable and under no duress. It just requires her to be understanding and nonjudgmental.

Ultimately real beauty can never been seen with eyes. It stems from deeds not shapes. It is the end result of what you do unselfishly and with the purpose of making life a little better for someone else. The beauty without is but temporary, the one within everlasting
