Every life is a mix of pain and joy – many a time pain covers the majority of our life’s period. We have witnessed many lives that have been allowed to crumble in the face of sorrow and pain. Sorrow has destroyed very many precious lives. Some of the most talented lives were grounded due to great sorrows or pains.
Yet there are lives that have blossomed despite pains and sorrows. Sorrows hit the lives of all. Broken relationships, poverty, untimely deaths, ill health…..the list is endless and everyone face one or more of any of these, even the richest and the most powerful. However there are some who blossom through these sorrows.
Sorrows or pains can have great paybacks too. It can build within you new strengths and add to your resolve. It can be the maker of new things and be the source of inspiration. Many an artistic and literary creation was born despite great sorrow or loss to their creators. Pierre-Augusta Renoir is an inspiring story of a man who created great art carrying the torment of crippling arthritis. His belief that his pains will end with his death but his art would perpetually give joy to all.
Sometimes these sorrows or pains become the source of inspiration to great creations. Van Gogh painted The Starry Night while in emotional torment; Lennon and McCartney forged their creative partnership following the death of their respective mothers and Beatles was born from these great sorrows, Milton penned Paradise Lost after losing his wife, his daughter, and his eyesight.
This is not only true with art form. There are scientists who have revealed the truth of all Universe despite great pains. Stephen Hawking is the name that comes to mind first. Struck early in life with a motor neuron disorder also known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig’s disease), Hawkings spent the major parts of his life on a powered wheelchair. Even his voice needed mechanical assistance to be heard. Yet he redefined the great General Theory of Relativity, developed by Einstein and gave the world Quantum Mechanics. Today the world of Physics owes him above all else.
Hawkings and Renoir maybe names that everyone knows and respects. There are millions who do so, that we know nothing about. Yet it is not the pursuit of fame and popularity that drive these fighters to carry on despite sorrows and pains. It is the firm resolve that they will achieve despite anything that affects them.
One thing is for sure. When beauty blooms in the ponds of sorrow, it truly is more beautiful.
