“Reality is the sum or aggregate of all that is real or existent within a system, as opposed to that which is only imaginary.” This is how reality is described by Wikipedia. We live in a world where unreal sights and images compete with and often override our vision of the real things around us. The insincere smiles of the models in advertisements, the make-believe tragedies, love, drama, and stalemates in movies and TV soaps, the dishonest disclosures, and discussion, have all assumed a status of “real”.
What we do not see is though are those things that are evident and right there in front of you. You are forced by the insistent media and social media to disbelieve even what is right there in front of your eyes. The power of media has distracted us from the truth. There used to be a world when right and wrong were very clearly defined. There was a distinction between what can be and what cannot be.
These lines and distinctions have all but disappeared and there are all these virtual realities taking us into the realm of fantasy with very little footing in truth. We are led by vivid colors, flattering messages, and irrelevant stats. In fact, we even refuse to look around us and are in a hypnotic state when we are led through to the point where we are completely enslaved by the unreal imagery.
Why has this happened to humanity? There may be a million reasons, but one reason stands out. The skill of those in the advertisement industry has discovered that accentuated shapes and sizes, overstated claims and flattery will win you over, regardless of the truth in front of you.
