We measure the meaning of our existence, at least a vast majority of us, by the value of what we have achieved in material terms. The great villas we own, the fleet of cars we drive about in, the servants who look after all our needs and the pantheon of worshippers flocking around us. A dream almost every young man or woman of this era carries and strives to achieve.
Yet there is just one question that pops up in the mind. On achieving all this, will the achiever be truly happy in life? Or would the life be one of the Guardian of Great Treasures, keeping watch lest someone else wrenches it off you?
Great treasure have proven to be burdens to their guardians over history. It never had a history of, ever satisfying the gainer. The greater you have the more you seek. This goes on to the very end, never giving you a chance to sit back, relax and reflect.
So what are the alternatives?
A hand of support for those in need, a soothing pat to someone in pain, a deed of support for a good cause……
I have tried some, and can honestly say that it can be quite satisfying and definitely less burdensome.
But then, the yardstick to measure is always yours to choose from.
