“Heroes are made by the paths they choose, not the power they are graced with.” – Brodi Ashton
You are not born a hero. It is a choice you make. Supermen endowed with superhuman capabilities do not make the pantheon of heroes in real life. They are ordinary men and women, who choose to do super human things, in the face of real danger.
Mayur Shelke, a railway pointsman employed with Central Railway, showed just that on that memorable day. A half blind woman and her little son were on the platform of Vangini Railway Station, when the boy accidentally slipped and fell on to the tracks below. The track on which an oncoming superfast express train was fast closing in on. Without hesitation the railway pointsman jumped on to the track hoisted the little boy on to the platform and pulled himself to safety, barely two second before the train rushed past. The video posted went viral and those who saw it couldn’t help the wetness in their eyes. This commonest of common man has shown the world that you need not be clad in Superman’s costumes to be a true superman.
A grateful Railway department gifted this man with a purse of Rs. 50000/- . The man chose to give half of it to the half blind woman, whose son he had saved. This was the crowning moment of Mayur Shelke’s deeds. Brave hearts can be golden hearts too. A story that should inspire anyone who hears it.
We live in a world where, we are all focused on our own wellbeing and the pains of our fellow being stay unseen, men like Mayur keep this world the paradise it once was, While people like him exist, there is still hope for mankind.
