Time goes by, regardless of whether you use it wisely or not. It is one stream that just cannot be stopped. Whether you want more wealth, more friendship, more freedom, or more impact, it all comes down to how you spend and value your time. People who spend their time doing more profitable work make more money. People who spend their time investing in others build better relationships. People who spend their time creating a flexible career enjoy more freedom. And finally people who spend their time working on high-impact projects contribute more to society. Not all uses of time are equal, and understanding this simple truth can make a huge difference in life.
At some level, we all need to have an internal gauge for how much our time is worth. What does one minute, one hour or a day of my time produce? This depends squarely on what you know, what you are skilled in, who can use your skills and how much you are capable of pressing forth. It needs to be noted that even the time you rest or are asleep, needs a value to it. It is also the only resource that everyone has the same quantity of, while you are alive, regardless of your social status, wealth, education, age or gender.
Herein lies the trick. If you put a value that is equal or lower than you actually can, you live in a egg shell of safety. You can use this as an excuse for your lack of progress or failure. However this puts you in – well, an egg. You never escape the shell and you stay right you were, temporarily and backwards eventually.
However if you give extremely high values to your time, it is a sure fire way to disappointment and heartbreak. The fact is even the swallow learned to fly after several attempts. No one can creep out of a egg and turn into a butterfly. Evaluation of time is not about killing yourself.
Then where do I put a value. Realistically it is thought that if you enhance the value of your time by around one hundred and twenty percent of what you consider realistic then you are probably on the right path. There is always the quest to improve but the knowledge that you still are human, protects you from disappointment.
And finally, you have to choose where you want to invest your time in. Your wealth, your relationships, freedom or social causes. This is what will make you.
