Where forgetfulness helps

Common causes of forgetfulness include aging, side effects from medications, trauma, vitamin deficiencies, as well as a variety of other disorders and diseases. Stress, overwork, inadequate rest, and perpetual distractions all interfere with short-term memory. So forgetfulness has causes. Logic says that if there are known causes, there ought to be remedies, if these causes are addressed. That means that I will remember everything, including the hiding I got from the class teacher, when she caught me taking a sly peek at my classmate’s answer sheet.
Do we really want to remember everything? While I certainly want to remember the PIN number of my wife’s ATM card, I am not so sure whether I want to remember the content of the speech by the dignitary, at least the part I heard before I went to sleep, at yesterday’s gathering. Nor do I want to remember the multiplication table for 9.
But then there are other things, you want to forget rather quickly. In the heat of the moment, I valorously declared that I will take up the work of doing the club’s accounts, while the accountant is on long leave. There is also the matter of my sudden health consciousness and the strenuous work out I promised my wife, I’d do. Here the wish is that both our memories are quickly impaired, especially hers.
So while I do encourage all of you who suffer from short, mid or long term memory, to see a counsellor, I am sure I will never do such a foolhardy thing, And forget taking my wife to one. Let me make a special note of this. Lest I forget.
Oh! For the bliss of forgetfulness.
