Creating Headline News – the wrong way

Have you ever wondered, how news channels and newspapers grab attention with news that are not always correct? It may be blatantly wrong or misleading to say the least but we see that they always manage to be on the right side. One just can’t remember and instance where any newspaper, television or blog ever had to apologies for something they published which we all knew was completely wrong and obviously fabricated with malicious intent.
Riding the wave of controversy is good for news items and blogs that want to pull audiences in. It gets your visitor emotionally involved. They are more likely to comment on your news item. It’s a very effective tool for generating attention. Just try not to land on the wrong side of an issue or be disrespectful. You just don’t want to offend your primary audience. Write a headline that makes people do kind of a double-take when they read it. Make them wonder and ask if it’s even possible.
The more atrocious your claim, the more it is likely to grab your attention. That is the mindset of the news reader. However, most news channels have predesigned escape passages, often more than one, sometimes, many to get out. And invariably they never actually outright quit the controversy, they leave it hanging in your mind as a maybe. This is the trickery that modern news reporting has deteriorated into. They have openly chosen sides, taken the populist paths and have no qualms in being shamelessly untrue. To the avid news watcher or newspaper reader, what come through the channel or print is the Holy Grail and very few care to even apply their common sense to it. In short we are too lazy to think for ourselves and have sold our right to know to these tricksters, who call themselves the bringers of truth.
